A majority of the lawsuits that were filed against Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative in relation to the 2011 Bastrop County wildfire have already been settled by the company, the Austin American Statesman reported online on March 31.
The Bastrop-based nonprofit firm reportedly was sued by at least 70 insurance providers after the devastating wildfire broke out nearly three years ago. Some of the settled cases were filed by individuals asking for payment for their injuries, property damage, and other losses that stemmed from the wildfire. The electric utility was held liable for injuries and damages after their power lines were destroyed by fallen trees and further ignited the wildfire.
