This year’s wildfire season in the United States was observed to be the most fatal for firefighters in the past 20 years, despite having the lowest number of wildfires in the last three decades, a report from USA Today stated on Saturday, November 23.
In this year’s wildfire season the Yarnell Hill fire in Arizona, in which at least 19 firefighters were killed, was the worst fire recorded in the history of Arizona and the worst that happened in the United States since 1933. But the National Interagency Fire Center said that despite this year’s wildfire season being the deadliest, the number of fire incidents recorded nationwide was only 43,000 compared to an average of about 68,000 fires in the last 10 years. The decreased number of fires this year was accounted for not having El Nino or El Nina climate patterns.
