The Austin Fire Department and Texas A&M Forest Service are helping local Austinites by evaluating homes for wildfire risk and how homes are protected against fire should one, such the 2011 Bastrop wildfire, occur.
According to fire specialist Josh Anderson, his team plan to do seven home assessments on June 15. He also mentioned that homeowners can sign up for the inspection to determine if they and their house are safe from wildfires.
One of the main hazards that is found in neighborhoods and homes, according to the fire department, are unbroken wood fences. It is advised to add stone columns and other non-flammable materials to help stop a fire should the fence catch fire.
The Fire Department also told residents to visit www.prepared.ly if they would like to learn more about wildfire prevention.
