Schools in Bastrop Independent School District that were ravaged by wildfires in 2011 have received a break in the form of federal academic requirement waivers as they still face difficulties recovering. Specifically, schools in the district have been waived from having to submit “adequate yearly progress requirements”.
Because of the devastating fires that affected many of Bastrop’s families and schools, some schools have had a difficult time catching up and meeting federal academic requirements. The school district held a meeting on January 15 to discuss the student progress, finances, and other school district updates.
Sadly, some home and property owners are still unable to move past this devastating event because of financial difficulties posed by the fire and bad faith practices on the part of their insurance companies.
