While many spring breakers in the Austin were in the downtown area for South by Southwest Musical festival, some students spent there days helping the fire victims in the Bastrop area.
Over the week, nearly 500 college and high school students throughout the state and assisting in helping the wildfire victims. A temporary housing center, Faith Village, was set up to give volunteers a place to live.
“It’s an exciting effort,” said Alan Ford, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Smithville who is with Faith Village. “We now have a place where volunteers can spend time here and have a place to stay.”
