An effort led by the Agriculture Commissioner has helped local ranchers in the area to rebuild fences that were lost in the wildfire.
There are 22 Bastrop County ranchers that have receive vouchers( worth $1,000) to rebuild their fences. The vouchers are awarded by the Department of Agriculture’s State of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund.
“The devastation in Bastrop County and across Texas is among the most catastrophic in the history of our great state,” Commissioner Todd Staples said. A rancher in the area stated that he is happy that volunteers are helping them get back on their feet after they lost much of what they had in a matter of minutes.
The STAR fund is used only to help farmers and ranchers in the area from private donations given by companies. To date, nearly $70,000 has been given to ranchers and farmers in the state Texas. In the most recent wildfire season, nearly four million acres of land were burned in Texas.
