AmeriCorps will be moving its operations to the Bastrop area in order to restore the Bastrop State Park.
According to officials with Bastrop State Park, the eight person crew will live in the park in order to work on the restoration. An AmeriCorps volunteer center will be working in a temporary home on Highway 71 and it will open Tuesday.
The crew will be working to remove debris, clear areas so that trees can be replanted, build new fences and work on erosion control. In Bastrop County, volunteers with AmeriCorps have volunteered 21,000 hours toward the cleanup effort.
