Victims of the Bastrop County fires have stated that they have been surprised with the quick response that they have seen from FEMA after the fire.
One victim stated that she received a trailer from FEMA weeks ago and is not just waiting to rebuild her permanent home. After Hurricane Katrina, FEMA was heavily criticized, but only two months after the Bastop County wildfires, 25 homes have already been replaced.
FEMA has also given out nearly $6.5 million to individual homeowners and nearly $1.6 million has been given to public agencies in the area. The county has already changed significantly from when the fires occurred and FEMA representatives have stated that they will be helping for as long as it takes for victims’ lives to return to normal.
